Originally founded in 1901, the East Course at Oak Hill
Country Club designed by Donald Ross was essentially barren land when
the course was opened for play in 1926. It was local physician Dr.
John R. Williams, an amateur horticulturalist, who had the vision to plant
over 75,000 trees of all varieties, but mostly oaks, on the property.
As the trees grew, it became obious that the combination of Ross' and
Williams' had created a masterpiece that would host nine major championsips
including 3 U. S. Opens, two PGA Championships, The Ryder Cup matches
in 1995 and this year's Sr. PGA Championship
